11/19/03 12:55 AM: HIStory in the Making
Please read today's comic before you read today's news post. Thanks.

I gotta say, it's nice to see that as a nation, we have a media that has our priorities straight. Today's comic is quite a bit of an exaggeration, but the point still stands. The top news story on KYW 3 Philadelphia tonight was not anything to do with the war in Iraq, nothing to do with the Prime Minister of Canada announcing his resignation, nothing to do with a court in Massachusets dissolving the ban on gay marriage, nothing to do Arnold Schwarzenegger at all, nothing to do with murder, rape, the stock market, the dangers of public phones... today was NOT a slow news day, so why the fuck is the most important news story of the day about Michael Jackson?

Yes, the guy was once very well respected for his music. Yes, he is a suspected child molester. Yes, he held his kid Lion King-style out of the window for all the world to see (as various news reports, nighttime comedy shows, and even sitcoms have decided to show us again and again and again). So why is the fact that his house was searched by police more important than everything I mentioned earlier? (Well, everything except the payphone guy. I just wanted to link to that because it's funny.)

It's not often that I really get pissed off at this kind of thing. Hell, it's not often that I read or watch the news. It's especially rare for me to get angry enough to mention it ANYWHERE. But really, when the media decides that something as meaningless as a legitimate search of the house of an already overpublicised target of criticism, something really has to be done, because that just ain't fucking right.

In other news (hah), we're on a new server! We have a new address! I'm learning SQL! My internet connection is no longer available for four days out of the week, therefore insuring that comic updates are even MORE irregular and variant from the schedule! (In fact, the date at the top of the post isn't even accurate, since that was when I finished writing the news and was ready to upload, not when I actually got to upload everything.) Oh yes, it's business as usual here at Scribblenotes, with no end to the wonderful mayhem in sight.
